What makes Amex statements different

Card statements play by different rules: there's no per-row running balance, credits and payments are marked CR rather than signed, and the document declares a previous balance and a new balance instead of opening and closing figures. NoRekey flips CR lines to the correct sign and verifies the whole statement the card way: previous balance plus charges minus payments and credits must equal the new balance, to the penny.

Amex descriptions carry the merchant, location and reference across wrapped lines, and business statements often run to many pages of small transactions. Everything is stitched, signed and exported ready for expense categorisation — with foreign-currency purchase sub-lines kept in the description rather than mistaken for amounts.

Balanced against the statement
Every conversion is cross-checked against American Express's opening and closing balances, so a mismatch surfaces before it reaches your books.
