Can either read scanned statements?

Both can. NoRekey converts scanned and photographed statements through OCR, balance-checked and charged like any other page. NoRekey also returns signed amounts and import-ready formats, not just a transcript.

Why does the export format matter?

Excel is fine for eyeballing, and CSV imports with some column mapping. OFX and QFX are what Xero, QuickBooks and Quicken treat as bank-feed files, so transactions go in without mapping. BankStatementConverter.com offers Excel and CSV (and JSON from its API) but not OFX or QFX; NoRekey produces all five from the same balance-checked conversion.
