Yes — that's the standard use. Convert the earlier statements in a batch and upload them oldest-first.

How do I avoid duplicating connected transactions?

Import statements only for periods the connection didn't cover. If periods overlap, remove the duplicated rows in Wave — the statement file itself never duplicates.

Is the conversion accurate enough for tax-time books?

Every conversion is reconciled against the statement's own opening and closing balances before export — mismatches are flagged for review, never silently exported.

Where Wave connections stop and statements take over

Wave's live bank connections cover the recent past; the history before them — earlier years, closed accounts, banks the connection doesn't reach — lives in statement PDFs. Converting those statements produces the CSV shape Wave's upload expects, so backfilled months arrive with the same structure as connected data.

Wave wants direction in the sign of a single amount column, which is precisely how the export is built: statements whose PDFs printed separate debit and credit columns were normalised during conversion, with every sign verified against the running balance so nothing imports inverted.
