01
Convert the statement
Drop the PDF — the conversion must reconcile against the statement's own balances.
02
Download the OFX
CSV works too, if you'd rather inspect columns before uploading.
03
Upload a statement
On the bank account in FreeAgent, upload the file and explain the transactions.
The pre-feed gap, and why OFX suits FreeAgent
The standard FreeAgent job is the gap before the bank feed: a company's first months, a switched bank account, a director's statement backlog at year-end. Converted statements fill that gap as OFX uploads — FreeAgent treats them like feed data, so explaining, rules and reconciliation all work normally.
Upload oldest-first so the account's history builds in order, and let the balance verification do the worrying: each statement had to reconcile against its own printed opening and closing balances before the file existed, so the uploaded months tie out to the statement figures.

Recommended for FreeAgent
FreeAgent's Upload a statement reads OFX directly — dates, descriptions and signed amounts, no mapping screen — and queues the transactions for explaining like any feed data.

Balanced before it reaches FreeAgent
Every conversion is cross-checked against the statement's own opening and closing balances — mismatches are flagged for review, never imported silently.
Originals deleted immediately
Files are encrypted in transit and at rest, never used for training, and the uploaded PDF is deleted the moment processing finishes.
