Import PNB statements into Tally

Punjab National Bank statements reach accountants two ways: password-protected e-statement PDFs, and paper printouts from the branch counter. Both convert to the same Tally-ready Excel.

Convert the statement first

  1. Upload the PNB PDF to the converter — for e-statements, enter the password from the covering email, commonly built from your account number or date of birth. It opens the file and is never stored.
  2. Debit and credit columns become one signed amount, lakh grouping (1,23,456.78) becomes standard decimals, DD-MM-YYYY dates become ISO — and the statement is reconciled against its printed opening and closing balances.
  3. Download the Excel export — clean, typed columns.

Import into Tally

  1. In TallyPrime, press Alt+O (Import) → Bank Statement on the PNB ledger, or use your practice's Excel import route.
  2. The exported columns — date, narration, amount, balance — line up with what the import expects; UPI/NEFT/IMPS narrations are intact for matching.
  3. Verify the closing balance against the statement — it will match, because the conversion had to reconcile before export.

PNB-specific notes

  • Branch printouts are first-class: a scanned or photographed counter statement converts through OCR with the same balance verification as an e-statement, drawing 3 pages of allowance per page — no retyping.
  • Legacy layouts convert too: statements from the merged Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India eras still turn up in catch-up work, and the balance check proves each one extracted completely.
