SBI e-statements arrive as password-protected PDFs, dense with UPI entries and lakh-grouped figures — and branch printouts arrive on paper. Both roads lead to the same Tally-ready Excel.
Convert the statement first
- Upload the SBI PDF to the converter and enter the statement password — the covering email states the exact format, commonly your date of birth in DDMMYYYY form or a combination with your account digits. The password opens the file and is never stored.
- Debit and credit columns become one signed amount, lakh grouping (1,23,456.78) becomes standard decimals, DD-MM-YYYY dates become ISO — and the statement is reconciled against its printed opening and closing balances.
- Download the Excel export — clean, typed columns.
Import into Tally
- In TallyPrime, press Alt+O (Import) → Bank Statement on the SBI ledger, or use your practice's Excel import route.
- The exported columns — date, narration, amount, balance — line up with what the import expects; UPI/NEFT/IMPS narrations are intact for matching.
- Verify the closing balance against the statement — it will match, because the conversion had to reconcile before export.
SBI-specific notes
- Volume is the SBI problem: a month of small UPI entries can run to hundreds of rows across many pages. Every row is captured, and the balance check guarantees nothing was dropped or doubled along the way.
- Branch printouts work too: a scanned or photographed counter statement converts through OCR with the same balance verification, drawing 3 pages of allowance per page.
